    Doctor visit
Hello. Currently, I am 10 weeks pregnant last period starting on January 7th. I was in the hospital with an amonia dec. 27th - jan 5th. I did receive a urine pregnancy test which came up negative and got my period on the 7th but I am still nervous due to all the medication I was on if I was pregnant before or after the hospital even though I had a regular period. My insurance does not cover my pregnancy and I am having problems with medicaid. Where can I go to make sure everything is OK and get an ultrasound that won't financial kill me?

You can look up abortion clinics... not to have an abortion but sometimes they offer general Gyno care and if you call them, depending on the place and their particular policies, they will and have been known to just do an ultrasound. I am not certain of the pricing but it is often less expensive than the norm. Good luck to you! Hope that helps!

Usually, ultrasounds in the second trimester are used to determine baby's well being and proper development. Earlier ones are often used for confirming a viable pregnancy and dating dating purposes, so you could wait a bit longer until the medicaid gets sorted out if that would help. Given the dates, there is a good chance you didn't become pregnant until the week or so after your last period.

When you said you were in hospital for "an amonia", did you mean to check ammonia levels and possible associated concerns or did you mean you were in because you had pneumonia? What were the medications you were on? There is a good likelihood that what you were given would be OK in pregnancy if by chance you were already pregnant at the time.

Other possible options for medical care would be to check with your local health department or hospital. They can put you in touch with any state or federal program available in your area, such as Healthy Start for example. Different states will sometimes have different programs. Your local hospital may even have a program of their own for those in need.

Do you have a current doctor or midwife that you have seen? They too should know about any programs in your area that may offer low cost scans and/or ones you can make payments towards.
