HI there,

I am wondering where I can find my IP address on my computer. I downloaded an app on my phone where I can use my smart phone as a wireless mouse and I need the IP address to activate it.

YOu do know that IP changes every time you log into the internet unless you are paying extra for a static IP.

You can run a free web based application... just Google "find my IP" and take your pick.

There are other ways but that's easiest and most fool proof. Meaning you aren't into anything that you can accidentally screw up. Like inNetwork settings or from IP CONFIG

Click this link Google.

In the box type FIND my IP and click Google search.

You will have a list of sites that pops up almost any of which can tell you what your IP is at that moment.

Why would an external IP be needed? Wouldn't it be internal, once the phone connects to the network? Your local IP would deviat which PC wants to use the app.

He means if you are using a router provided by your internet provider. They many times will show one IP address (the external address others see) while they play some magic called NAS translation and give your machine another IP (the Internal Adress).

If that's the case there are ways around it via certain configurations... but (and I'm kidding here) your head might explode if we tried to explain it.:eek:

Because it is very technical, and it is very hard to understand unless you work with this stuff all the time.

Hmmm... that function would use the Bluetooth wireless feature of your phone and not require an IP address at all. I would be wary of that app.

No, it's a Windows phone. The app didn't work...

You need to use you INTERNAL IP address NOT the external public IP.

Try this

Start > Run > type CMD > black box appears > Type ipconfig (in black box)> Hit enter.

Gives a whole bunch of info but what you are looking for is:

IPv4 Address... 192.168.x.x

where x idents your own machine.

Of course this won't work unless you are using wireless ;)

It still wouldn't need her external. Once the phone connects to her network it would need her internal... this is my take on it.

I don't know the phone app, but have used the computer app version of that years ago. So I know what that does.

Yeah... that would need an IP. But because you have a router in front of your computer, you are going to need help setting up port forwarding etc on that router.

As stated by myself and Ben, this is an internal IP Address not external. (follow Ben's advice on accessing your internal address.)

Secondly, I don't think port forwarding would be necessary either. 1) Instructions say nothing about it 2) upnp enabled device? (this is my assumption)

You only really need port forwarding for external/internal comms, not within the same subnet.

Hey better idea.
Dump it and get a decent wireless laser mouse ;)

True... Like I said... the version I used... (assuming this app wasn't just name dropping and has nothing in common with its namesake) was much older and was used similar to another app, PC Anywhere.

I don't have either an Android or Iphone.
