Mohammed knew of Jesus because he is named in the Koran a number of times. So is his mother Mary.

The Koran views Jesus as a prophet and if I remember correctly he is the most named person in the Koran. It accepts his virgin birth and names Mary as his mother.
They do not accept Christ as the Son of God
There were various fractions of the Christian church in the area that Muhammad lived in and one of his wives was a Christian.

Fr. Chuck said it! Most people are shocked to know that Jesus is named in the Koran, born of a virgin and her name is Mary. He is revered as a great prophet but not as the Savior as most Christians believe. John the Baptist is in there too. As a practicing Catholic, I was very surprised to find so many "Christian" things in the Koran.

It is good to recognise these connections, from my understanding of jesus although religion has made him the only son of god the super human saviour, I believe that jesus himself explained himself differently more human, we're children of god ?

A better way to look at it is that they knew OF each other.
Ali-Imran 3:3
... sent down to thee (step by step), in truth, the Book, confirming what went before it; and He sent down the Law (of Moses) and the Gospel (of Jesus) before this, as a guide to mankind, and He sent down the criterion (of judgment between right and wrong).

Matthew 7:15
[ True and False Prophets ] “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.
Matthew 24:11
And many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.
Matthew 24:24
For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.
Mark 13:22
For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.
