    How can I open a text .dat file written in Word 2006? My word program won't open it.

    Are you sure that Dat file is a text file?

    Try open it with Notepad or Wordpad.

    Neither of those worked. I finally asked the sender to send it in a different format. She sent it in Rich Text Format and I was able to open it. Thanks anyway.
