This should be on the homework hot line but we can give you some hints. First off can you tell us if you are allowed to use a calculator? Since it's a square length and width are identical: L x W = 310 .

What number times itself equals 310? Easy if it was 100 right, 10 x 10= 100 but there is no whole number that can be multiplied by itself to produce 310 so we will definitely have a decimal. Try a few numbers between 10 and 20 to see how close you can get. I will wait here

Well, it's still some sort of challenge to find it without a calculator ;)

    We know that 17 x 17 = 289
    and 18 x 18 = 324

    The difference is 324 - 289 = 35
From 310 to 324, it increases by 14.

    So, an approximation would be 18 - 14/35 = 18 - 2/5 = 18 - 0.4 = 17.6
