Would stopping Metformin cause sore nipples?
My nipples and the area around them have been sore to the touch for at least 2 weeks now. I mean, I can't even touch them through clothing they hurt so bad.

There is no way I'm pregnant. I don't ovulate. And it's not PMS because I do not have periods.

(I'm seeing a diabetic counselor on Thursday to figure out how to get my recent diagnosis of diabetes under control and reduce my weight, so hopefully it will correct my annovulation/periods so we can conceive.)

And since I've been so sick so much lately, my hubby and I have only had sex twice since late June, and the first of those 2 times was about 3 weeks ago.

However, when I was admitted to the hospital on June 26 with pancreatitis, my doctor told me to stop taking Metformin, as some people can get metformin-induced pancreatitis, and there was no other cause for me to have gotten it.

So basically I've been off metformin for about a month and that's the only change in my life I can think of, and my boobs hurt so much, I'm wondering if stopping the Met could be the reason.

    Thanks for reading :)

Do me a quick favor. Look at your nails. Press with another nail on the nail until it turns white. How long does it take for the color to return to reddish?

Can you tell me what your Glucose readings were at the time of diagnosis? Was it a fasting Level?

Do you have any idea as to your glucose levels now or the value of your Hemoglobin A1c bloodtest if it was done?

Do some research on Diabetic Ketoacidosis, Lactic acidosis and peripheral neuropothy and you may see a relationship.

The body will starve the extremeties such as feet and even nipples when the body as a whole needs to survive.

Thus I THINK it may be due to poorly controlled, recently diagnosed diabetes. Compare the symptoms of Lactic Acidosis/diabetic ketoacidosis and see if you may have had an episode of that.

My doctor said all the levels they tested, including fasting bloodsugar, were fine. But my A1C was 6.7.

Um, well I had to scrape the nailpolish off my nail lol. But when I press on it, it turns white like immediately. And it stays white until I let go. I don't know if this matters, but I'm freezing. We have the AC turned on really cold so I'm a bit chilly right now.

Thanks for checking. All of that is quite good. HA1c below 7 is what's expected for diabetics.

Besides what I wrote earlier, I don't have a clue.

There's a very strong possibility that they are sore because of your hormones. For women who have regular periods they often become sore right before a period begins when there's a hormone change. When you stopped taking Metformin that probably caused a shift in your hormones and they will probably stay sore, or go on and off, until your hormones get balanced again.

    Have you seen an endocrinologist?

No I haven't seen an endocrinologist. But tomorrow morning is my first visit to the diabetic specialist, so they may refer me to one? I'm super excited to finally find this out and have the opportunity to get it turned around before it gets too bad! :)

Ask for a referral to an endocrinologist if they don't suggest it. It's amazing how much better life is when your hormones are in balance, and getting them in balance is what an endocrinologist does.
