    Occasional seafood allergy
I'm always eating seafood but on some occasions I get anaphylaxis. One time it was mussels but then a few months later I ate it and was fine. Tonight I had shrimp and uni, sea urchin and got anaphylaxis. Swollen throat and lips, difficulty breathing, hives. I immediately took some benadryl and then diarrhea and now I'm feeling better. I just don't know when its going to happen so I don't try to avoid any seafood. Sound familiar to anyone?

If you have a serious allergy to seafood, please stop eating it. This sort of allergy only gets worse, not better, and you really don't want to find out which time is the one where the reaction hits you too fast to get treatment.

I believe there is some specialised treatment for reducing the severity of allergies, but it takes time, and probably money. Seems to me it would be a lot easier to skip the seafood.

You said you do not try to avoid seafood. So you are setting yourself up for a severe allergic reaction. You carry Benadryl with you. Some day that may not be enough. I used to have to carry a kit with me that contained a prefilled syringe.

If you are stubborn enough to not listen to your body and will continue to eat seafood, then you should follow through with an allergist and do what is recommended.

Ask your primary doctor to get a consult with an allergist. I would not mess with this.

Anaphylaxis = death. So, avoid seafood if you want to live.

Benadryl is great, but will not act fast enough in an emergency situation.

An epi-pen will work wonders though.
