First time seeing the new doctor in a new province. After three years have right away came up with adenoids have to be removed. That's great now the problem solved right.

Before the surgery. The episodes of waking up got worse. Gagging, coughing and vomiting.
Kept getting him checked over. Doctor does not want to spend the time with us and passes it off as nothing, or and trying to push inhalers on my child even though there has never been any evidence of asthma or any related symptoms as wheezing , etc...

Well had his adenoids out and was doing great until today he woke up with the same symptoms the coughing, gagging , etc...

Went to the doctor and the doctor and training was giving my wife an lecture about how we should still be giving him his sprays after a month. Even though they have no clue what is going on.

I also feel that his tonsils should have been removed but the surgeon we had did not want to remove them. Thinking this is part of the problem. I do not know.

Anyway, that is it. Your Thoughts??

Hi Jesushelper, the jury used to be out on removing tonsils from a toddler, and I guess its still out. Has he had allergy tests, immune deficiency tests. Those are the only options I can think of at the moment. You say a new doctor, but is the new doctor a Pediatrician ?

No, the new doctor is not a pediatrician.

That is all I want is investigation instead of just pushing us out of the door with an lazy answer without anything checked.

Allergy tests and immune deficiency tests. What does the immune deficiency tests for? What kind of things you might have in mind?

Couple of other things to look at before thinking about serious tests.
Does he sleep with a dummy/pacifier ?
Have you tried using a decongestant vapour like Olbas Oil, or similar ?

Mr T had a stage of this and we found he was simply inhaling snot while he was asleep. Using Olbas oil helped him breath easily at night and stopped this happening.

CB may be on to something, yes Olbas oil is almost same as Vicks an inhalant decongestant in a vapourizer to reduce swelling of mucous membranes; would be a good idea to try and can't do any harm.

Do think lining yourself up with a good Pediatrician may be a better then a GP. Why not get a referral ?

Hello J9,

It is clear usually, but he had a spell of this a few weeks before the adenoid surgery.

He was fine for a while but just a cough that will not go a way, seems to be happening for two months.

Now, the last few days, we have already been back to the doctor and says there is congestion in the nose. Throat is fine.

Since being there the coughing spells have got worse.

Now he is gagging and coughing up tons of dark green phlegm.

Call the nurse line, because we have brought him to ER with these symptoms before and they turn us away.

We have tried everything, including what CB was mentioning.

I am ready to punch the television because this is getting too frustrating.

The nurse on the phone did not think it was series either. Even though he is coughing up loads of dark green phlegm.

Is there a chance there is still an easy explanation for all this crap? I am not showing my frustration to my buddy. Giving him lots of fluids and whenever he has these spells we sit him up and keep him up until he seems better. It is now 3 am without any sleep yet...

I'm wondering if he has acid reflux or GERD. Also, you say he is congested, this could be caused by him swallowing the phlegm. Coughing so much can cause vomiting.

The thing is the congestion is in his sinuses and the doctor said his throat is completely fine. Could it be coming from both??

I did not develop it until my 20's but anything is possible. (Reflux) My mom has it, my uncles have it.

Somebody keeps mentioning allergies too, could allergies cause these symptoms.

I guess what we have to do, is go through all the possible causes and try to eliminate them.

Although before the surgery when he started this pharmacy had us try him with clariton but never really did anything. Nasal spray not helping. Why would it all of a sudden flare up a few weeks before surgery. And only flare up the last few days. It is weird.

We have gone to the hospital three times, three nights in a role. Even brought the phlegm with us. They keep saying he is fine and that he is probably just getting over an infection. Every where we turn they try to push inhalers towards us, even though his chest is clear and or at our local hospital won't even call the doctor in.

I just don't understand why you are having so much trouble with the hospital and the doctors and getting a proper diagnosis. A way back I suggested getting his immune system tested, but for that you would have to have an appt. with a pediatrician. He could have an immune deficiency and this why the infection is still present in his body, justified by the colour and amount of his phlegm.

I know you must be beyhond frustrated with all of this, and some times there are simple solutions.

We ask for tests and everything else. I have not really slept for days. I just finished antibiotics myself a little while go and my throat and roof of mouth is still bloody red sore.

Going to family doctor tomorrow. Then Will ask to see a pediatrician for buddy.

Enough is enough. Going back and forth to hospitals and doctors tired of it.

I know, there could be simple solutions but that all depends on the family doctor , etc... We keep pushing to get these tests done, but none want to do it.

Even the nose, throat ears specialists thinks he should see a pediatrician.

That really stinks. Where we are most children's parents automatically choose a pediatrician as their child's GP.
