    If you have an asset, operating expense:
    To increase it, DEBIT it
    To decrease it, CREDIT it.

    If you have a liability, capital, sales revenue, contra assets such as depreciation expense:
    To increase it, CREDIT it
    To decrease it, DEBIT it.
