    Tax deductions from pay check
    Hi,
My name is Aniruddha kulkarni. I am a F1 student working as a full time
Associate on my CPT. I know for tax purposes I am considered as a non-resident alien.

My emlpoyer makes the following deductions from my bi-weekly pay check:

    1. Fed Tax

    2. CA state income tax

    3. CA SUI/SDI tax

I want to know whether these are correctly being deducted and also what is the
% rate of salary that each of the above are based on. I mean what % of my gross
Bi-weekly salary should be Fed tax, State Tax and the SDI tax?

( Might help to know my gross bi-weekly salary is $2269.28)

    Any help will be appreciated.

    -AK

The percentage of your gross is dependent on your tax bracket. The taxes are taken out of your Gross salary, so a percentage of the $2269.28.

As an example, with no knowledge of your tax filing status, your yearly salary would require about $2800 in CA Income Tax as an individual with no dependents. $2800 divided by 26 pay periods = $107.69 for CA Income Tax per pay period. Federal Income Tax would be about $8766. Divide that by 26 pay periods = $337.15. [1]

SUI/SDI are at about 1.1% up to a maximum amount, but should be about $40 for you. [2]

*Note: All of the calculations above are based on 2012 and 2010 tax rates and are only estimates. Consult with an Accountant or Payroll Specialist for more accurate information.
