I have a goodman heat pump it will work in cooling mode but not heating.
When I put in heating mode the air handler will kick on and the back up heating stripes work but the heat pump does nothing. I have replaced the transfomer on the air handler when it burned up and also replace the contactor and defrost control board at the heat pump. Any help would be great.

How cold is it in your area? Electric heating strips will not be on at the same time as heat pump(outside unit). If its below forty or so degrees, the system is using the electric strips only. Does your thermostat have an emergency heat setting, and a heat setting?

Is there by chance an outdoor thermostat installed in the outdoor unit? If so, it may be set higher than the outdoor temp thus,holing the unit out?

There is a defrost thermostat on the unit. The heat pump it a goodman model cple30-1c. I did replace the thermostat this summer is there a chance I wired it wrong and ac works but not the heat. I flipped the switch from heat to off a few time and the heat pump would kick on for a sec when switching back to off mode.
