    Origin of Pin Cherry name
    Why are pin cherries given this name.

    They are similar to pin oaks. Branches tend to grow out at right angles from the trunk and can be cut off and used as "pins" which were used in the olden days by carpenters to hold pieces of wood together before steel and nails were invented.
