Have been renting from the same place for five years. This year I think they automatically termed us for another year. We pay monthly. Now I thought that at any time we could give 60 day notice. No matter when the term is up or not. The new agreement starts in September. We are thinking of moving.
Last month rent is already paid. What happens if we can not give any notice at all. Just abandon?

I am kind of stuck what I can do and not do.

Canada, of course. Please help with some ideas and what is the right way to go about it. Either way I think that we could be in trouble anyway. Not being able to get rent, getting kicked out, or just abandoning if we have to.?

I do not like doing this. Want to give the proper notice. Just want to know the ins and outs.

Often after the first year, the lease is technically 'fulfilled'. Then in subsequent years, the agreement may change to month-to-month, requiring either 30- or 60- day notice, as outlined in your original rental agreement.

However, each agreement varies. Have you spoken with your apartment manager/landlord at all? Some agreements even state that after the first year, only a 30 day notice is required (if originally it was 60); it just depends on what the lease says.

What does your lease state? Why would you have to move without giving any notice at all?
