    Early release
I was just wondering if it is possible for a probation officer to release you earlier from probation than what the judge has sentenced me to in NYS

    Hello Kat:

The PO can't change what the judge ordered. But, it's possible that you can be released early. It depends of the probation rules for your jurisdiction. Ask your PO. You're going to need his cooperation anyway. If he doesn't know, or won't help, ask his supervisor. If that doesn't work, ask to see a copy of the policy and procedures manual for the probation department. In it, you can find out what you need to know, and exactly how to do it.

Generally, that's not at the discretion of the probation officer. Whatever sentence the judge imposed, that's how long it's for.
