Operating system and version? Obtaining the error in a Command Line Interface (CLI) or a pop-up in a Graphic User Interface (GUI)?

Internal, external/USB or external/SATA drive? If internal double checked data cable orientation?

Been able to try disk in another computer? Results? Sometimes a misaligned drive head will produce disks that can't be read by another drive or can't read disks from a properly aligned drive. Sometimes the switches or optical devices that detect the presence of a disk are malfunctioning or blocked by something like dust or a dead insect.

Tried a blank disk in that drive?
