    Ready to breed
I have a 5 year old dachshund dotson dog, we have recently found someone who has a female dotson, they want to breed her with my dog.
Here's my question, how often does a female dotson go into heat, and aproxmicly when? With me having a male I have no idea.
Also they don't want to give us the pick of the litter, instead of that they want to pay us,how do you know what to charge for this?? ::confused:

Well first of all before you go and produce more puppies in this world do some research on your breed, especially learn how to actually spell your breeds name right for starters. A dog should be bred based on how close it resembles the standard of that breed, for its tempermant, and ability. I know these weren't the answers to your questions but you have to keep in mind when you decide to bring a litter into this world. You are responsible for the well being of each and everyone of the puppies and the dam. Any how you should know how much to charge based upon how well your dog is bred. If you have a show dog with champion and grand champion lines in the pedigree then you can charge the going rate of that line and breed. I believe for PROPERLY BRED dachshunds they range from $700-$2000+ ,so the stud fee should be the price of one puppy. If your dog doesn't have papers then you should consider not breeding (the same goes for the female also) The stud fee will be drastically lower if that's the case also. Another factor if is if you really want to breed your dog make sure that the owner of the Dam is willing to make sure that each and everyone of the puppies in the litter goes to the best home possible. All in all the price for the stud fee is based upon how good you feel your male is. It is ultimately the decision of the owner of the Stud to decide what negotiations go on with the breeding (most of the time). If you want pick of the litter and they don't allow it then choose not to breed with the female. Please do some research and stay in touch with the owner of the Dam to ensure your puppies go to good homes.

Females heat cycles range they usually go into heat every 4-6 months and at about two weeks into their heat cycle are ready to be bred.

    National Stats

The sad fact is once a puppy is past its cuteness; or a dog displays behaviors we don't know how to deal with, many canines are discarded like old newspapers. On average 100,000dogs and puppies are listed on www.petfinder.com, daily. It is reported by the National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy, from the 5000 or so US agencies who responded to the survey, that over 2 million dogs enter shelters annually. Of those 27% are relinquished by owners, 42% are turned in by animal control, 31 by other sources, of these dogs, 56% are euthanized.

Please do not breed you dog, I run a rescue, this evening along on just one site on the internet there was over a 108,759 dogs sitting in shelter waiting for forever homes. Some are in shelter that does not euthanatize; other dogs are and will be pt to sleep. Please help to say a live prevent a litter fix a critter. Thousand of dogs cat guinea pigs rats’ mice hamster, you name it they are in a shelter somewhere waiting for a home.

The listing for some other animals is as followsthey can all be found on this one link listed below and this is just one.

Thank you for your input, I have decided ,NOT to breed my dog.
My dog means the world to me, To me my dog is like one of my children, I love to come home from work and have him all excited just to see me.
I think that the people I was going to breed my dog with, don't know too much about theire dog, or even care that much about theire dog, and I think that they were just out to try and get a quick cash flow with the puppies, I just didn't have a very good feeling about the whole thing.
Thank you for reminding me about all of the critter's, who will probably never get a real home of theire own, which is a really a shame.
    Thank you again.
