    High levels of vitamin b12
My 14 year old daughter had some blood work done for what we thought was anemia like syptoms all blood work came back normal except for her b12 level was very high 3800 (normal range is 250-900) we repeated the test results the same. We took her to oncologist and a endocrinologist both were a little baffled all blood work is picture perfect except for b12?? Any help or suggestions?

My daughter is feeling fine except for what I thought was anmia (cold hands and feet some pins and needle feelings the nuralogist ruled out any problems with blood work and MRI) his blood work is how we found her levels of B12 high he sent us to a hematologist and oncologist all their blood works came back picture perfect except for her B12 still around 3800 (norm 250 to 900) waited to see doctor for next step:confused:

Your daughter could have Raynauds Phenomenon. I have Raynauds. I have had cold hands and cold feet since I was very little. The tingling comes into play when the hands and feet are warming up. There is no known cure for Raynauds as it is basically a circulatory problem. The teensey capilaries are actually shutting down and trapping the blood in the hands and feet and not letting the blood return to the heart and lungs to be warmed.

Lately I have been taking Niacinamide daily and that has helped me warm up my hands and feet. I take it several times a day with no ill effects. You can take this over the counter capsule several times a day. There is no such thing as too much niacinamide.

I, too was anemic when I was a kid and no matter how much iron I took my hands and feet never would get warm. In the winter I must be ultra careful to wear hats, 2 sets of gloves, long down coat and sheepskin boots with real wood socks. I'm toasty warm in this get up at -20 degrees. I just tested this get up out last week.

You need to be very careful that your child understands her condition and make sure that her hands and feet do not get frostbite as this is very easy to have happen with the Raynauds. When my fingers get cold they actually turn white and hurt. I put them under warm water and let the blood come back into them. Do not use hot water right off the bat, but warm water and gradually work up to warmer, warmer, etc.

It would be helpful if you could post the results instead of just saying they were normal so we can see what all was actually done.

    High values
High levels of vitamin B12 can occur in liver disease (such as cirrhosis or hepatitis) and some types of leukemia. However, the vitamin B12 test is not usually used to diagnose these problems.
In rare cases, high levels may be found in people with diabetes or who are obese.

Hi... I know this is an old thread, but I was wondering if you ever found out why your daughters B12 levels were so high. I have the same situation as your daughter. All other blood work is normal?

    Thanks!

Look at your diet, vitamin pills or supplements your taking, or it could be the bacteria in your gut. If you're not supplementing your diet with vitamins than it has to be something in your diet that is causing the spike. Now I didn't read the original question because your situation is not the same as in the original thread, regardless of the similarities.

There are other disease related causes of high levels of B12. Theses are mostly liver diseases.

You might want to start tour own thread. It helps your posts not getting ignored.

I have very Cold hands and Feet, My Dr. said possible Raynaud's but she wanted to do lab work first.
I also have low blood pressure. When my labs came back my B12 was high. She is still going to do more tests.
When I go to bed, I sleep with my sweats on, I wear my robe and socks. I wear my gloves, I have a heated blanket on my bed.

When I am in the car I have to sit the front seat. Thank got for Butt Warmers, I hope all of you out there know what those are. My Mom's car is fully loaded her front seats have the back heated also, I can sit on my hands and thaw them out.
