    The most common bacterium in the intestines is E. coli which is 1 to 2 micrometers in length by 0.5 to 1 micrometers in width.

    You need a really small ruler for these guys!

    There are hundreds of species of gut flora. You can look up these genera to get a general idea:

    -bacteroides
    -bifidobacterium
    -eubacterium
    -clostridium
    -peptococcus
    -peptostreptococcus
    -ruminococcus
    -escherichia
    -enterobacter
    -enterococcus
    -klebsiella
    -lactobacillus
    -proteus

    There are others but those are some of the main ones.

I am looking for scientific informations about which part of digested molecule classes (proteins, carbohydrates, lipids) passes through the intestinal barrier without being (completely) degraded and would be glad for any hint or/and link.
