    Foxtail in dogs nose harmful?
We have had dogs for years and it's a common thing fox tail in the ear or nose recently my dog got a foxtail in her nose an we ran in to get some tweezers to pull it out but by time my dad got back out it was gone. So we took her to vet and they couldn't find it but they got the one in her ear.. the vet offered to check the nose again (in 3 days) if she still has it in her nose. So day or so after she still had it could tell by the eyes squinting, sneezing really hard, now are option is to take her to a specialist and can cost Up to 1500 dollars... so now we are curious how Harmful is a foxtail to a dogs nose? Because at the moment we don't have 1500 dollars laying around would take us a bit to save up. Let me know asap please.

This can be a very serious condition. You MUST have the foxtails removed so that an infection does not set in. The various infections can be much more costly than what you are going through right now.

Let me ask... If this were your 1 year old child who had a quarter stuck in her throat, would you take her to the emergency room or just wait to see if it passes? I think you would seek medical attention. And you should treat your pup as such. This pup is dependent upon you to take care of her and keep her healthy. If she could have gotten rid of this herself, she would have. But she can't, she relies upon you, just like a baby would.

Didn't the vet you took her to explain it to you... I don't understand what other things we might be able to tell you here that changes the circumstances enough for you. Although I can sympathsize with how much of an ouch $1500 is, maybe its time to reconsider owning a pet if you can't see you way to caring for it through thick and thin. Take her to a shelther if you need to bail, but at least let them know the situation so they can get her the appropriate medical attention she needs.

I was just curious what the possible outcomes could be. We are going to take her to another vet in the next cupple days. Out of all the dogs we owned the vet has always been able to take out any foxtail... we didn't use are normal vet and this vet couldn't find it so I think were going to take it to are normal vet see if they can take it out if so yay, if not got to see exactly how much its going to cost with the speicalist :-( she's my baby. And generally if a kid has a quarter in her throat you have medical insurance which covers it, I don't have doggy insurance :-(

You the family is trying the best, her brother died about 2 years ago due to bleeding internally which the vet couldn't find, so we had to put him down. Then there mentor older boxer which was 14.5yrs old, she had a twisted stomic? Would have costed like 3000 to surgicly do and with her being her age the healing might take a bit longer and its barely keeping her alive longer and what not so we had no choice it was my moms baby. This dog with the foxtail is my baby if I was working full time and had the money id straight pay to get her fixed asap. But we have to wait a few days to get her to another vet to see if they have any luck with the foxtail

I totally understand about no doggy insurance, many people here in the States do not have health insurance for themselves or their children.

Glad to hear you are going to get it taken care of. Hope your regular vet can help.

The last vet took out a piece of the tail that he found in her nose but couldn't find the big stub. Since then she hasn't been doing her major sneezing where she would almost slam her jaw on the concreat only sneezes she does is the normal ones, possible that she could have sneeze the tail out?
