When u buy a dvd burner it comes with the detailed instructions...

Basically in a nutshell you unplug the old and unscrew it and replace the same way with the new... just make sure the little jumper on the back of the burner(its a pull out connector that connects 2 pins together) are setup as the same...

If the cd rom was setup as a slave make the new dvd burner a slave

Hey guy thanks for the speedy reply to my question. I would have answered sooner, but work is keeping me busy. I got the burner installed with no hitches, but when I try to burn anything to a disk I get a message telling me I do not have access to the file & to talk to my administrator about it. I am the only one that uses this computer, so I guess I am the administrator. Any suggestions as what to do now? Your reply to my first post was very helpful & I was hoping you could be of service again. Thanks in advance ;)

In that case the only thing I can think of is to try different blanks - do blank cd's work? Some media is better than others!

What burner software? What are you trying to burn? What steps are you going through to burn?
