You seem to get these a lot (it sounds like viruses/malware). Are you getting games and apps from P2P sites and getting infected?

Every time the internet seems to freeze I get the same error in the event viewer.

    Source: Microsoft-Windows-Dhcp-Client
    Date: 28/11/2008 17:11:29
    Event ID: 1002

The IP address lease 192.168.0.4 for the Network Card with network address xxxxxxxxxxxxxx has been denied by the DHCP server 192.168.0.1 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message).

Could this be the problem? What can I do and what does it mean? Thanks.

I also get the same error but the time for the last time it froze was 2 minutes later than this one.

Go to your router settings and make sure DHCP is set to the longest leases possible and that there are enough IP addresses to go around for all your devices on the network.

I had similar problems a few months back... it was my router... I had an old D-Link router bought in 2001 and it was very slow and dropped connections from time to time. I bought a new one this year and my internet is a lot faster now, nearly twice the speed.

I know it's a very non-technical fix but the hardware (or possibly cheap or damaged network cables) can cause this kind of problem.

Right lets try karmas first. How do I access DHCP on my router settings? I cannot see it.

How about simply setting a staic address on your computer, hence negating the need to a/ use DHCP and b/ access your router ;)

Control Panel > Network Connections > Right click you Local area connection.
Highlight Internet Protocol TCP/IP > Click properties
    The rest is quite obvious.

You want to set a 192.168.x.x IP with 255.255.255.0 subnet and 192.168.x.1 gateway (router IP).
DNS can be set as your router address, so 192.168.x.1

The above is for XP, but should be similar for Vista as well.

I have lots of different things,

    Client for Microsoft Networks
    QoS Packet Scheduler
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
    Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)
    Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
Link-Layer Topology Discovery Mapper I/O Driver
    Link-Layer TopologY Discovery Responder

    Which one is it? :S

Why is there two different ones? Also my laptop that I'm on now runs vista and my desktop runs XP could that be a problem?

V6 is the replacement for v4 as it offers a larger address space.
The others you should never need to play around with, except file&print sharing.
The different OS's won't be the problem at all. Seems to be an issue with the DHCP lease time.

I have figured out that the error I was getting in the event viewer is just me rebooting the router, so what now? Thanks again.

Maybe you keep your computer on too long? I know when I leave my computer on for days at a time, it definitely makes it run slower, or freezes, or won't load pages at all... the computer needs to sleep just like you and me.

Just a thought, before you change all of your settings and everything...

Evening or morning? [ 3 Answers ]

Hi, I have been trying to lose weight for about 3 months now and haven't seen any improvement. If at all, I feel like I have gained. I only eat around once a day and snack through out the day. I have cut out cokes, and tea. I was a big tea drinker. Anyway, I still have to have some kind of caffeine...
