    Amount of nitrogen for testing pipe
    What is the volumn of nitrogen required per one foot of 16" pipe to pipe test at 180#of pressure

    Do you mean: what is weight of nitrogen needed? Use the ideal gas law:

    n= PV/RT = [180psi* 1.33^2 * pi/4 ft^3]/[10.73 ft^3 psi/R lb-mol * 520 deg R] * 454 g/lb = 20.35 mol

    This assumes that the temp is 520 degrees R (about 59 degrees F).

    The molecular weight of N2 is approximately 28 g/mol, so you need 28*20.35 = 570 grams, or 1.25 pounds.

    If you know the diameter of the pipe you can use the same method to calculate how much nitrogen you need as described in post #2 of this thread.
