    Need help with English Grammar
    Q10. Which one of the following two sentences are correct.

    The operating rooms are all in good order. More than one is equipped with the latest imaging technology.

    The operating rooms are all in good order. More than one are equipped with the latest imaging technology.

    I like to use other examples of the same principle if I am not sure, like this

    More than one answer is not acceptable.

    More than one answer are not acceptable.

    Does that help you out any?

    I would say:

    The operating rooms are all in good order. More than one are equipped with the latest imaging technology.

    operating rooms = plural, use are. If singular, use is

    Although that seems correct, I don't think it is. The subject is "more than one" and although it refers to a plural amount, the subject itself is singular

    It is very possible that you could be correct.

    Grammar was never my strongest subject in school.

    Arg... I really need to go back to school and take an elementary grammar course. Threads like this make me feel so stupid... Or is that " makes me feel so stupid"? Some help spell check is LOL we need a grammar check! :D

    Actually, both are correct, but the preferred on is

    The operating rooms are all in good order. More than one is equipped with the latest imaging technology.

    I had this question on my HESE TEST (Entrance to Nursing School Exam) and I got a 100% score on the grammar portion of the test.

    The reason it is correct is because you are saying more than "one"

    If you had said more than "two" you would have to say "More than two are equipped.

    One is considered singular, hence using the singular "is"

    Well I also just found out in the American heritage book of englisg that both is and are are correct.
