Hi I don't know how to start my question, I have a 6 years old niece. Any time that she gets a chance she tries to scratch her somewhere (vagina) by using her heel,my sister have been taking her to so many doctors but non of them was able to say what is the reason, we were thinking that is itchy that is why she is doing that ,but when we tried to talk to her to see what is the reason for her to do this, is it really itching or.. we found out she is actually enjoying doing it,(oh god I am so embarrassed) ,we are really don't know what to do,all of us are so frustrated because she doesn't know what is she actually doing,please help us out.

Many young children discover that it feels good but they need to be told that something's are best done in private. A gentle reminder if necessary may be all that it takes if she forgets.

Growing up there was a little girl who used to balance herself on her heal. Looked like she was rubbing herself. It turned out she was trying to hold her pee in and ended up having to see a specialist. Make sure she is not trying to hold it in.

My oldest daughter still gets caught doing this once in a while in her sleep non-the-less... but it took me 2 years to break her of doing it all the time... (she just turned 8)

She discovered her pleasure area when she had a yeast infection... around the age of 5

Of course "scratching the itch" feels good but then something else happens to the poor kids...

Unfortunately for young kids they often have the same reaction adults do, they just don't understand why they shouldn't be doing it all the time or in front of people...

My 8 year old does this. We asked her pediatrician about it and she said it was normal. It feels good and that is why she does it.

No one likes to witness it - from a child or an adult, so we told her that this was a private thing - it should be done in private.
