Choosing between Trane / Carrier. Any significant difference?
Trying to compare Trane & Carrier units to replace existing system. I'm trying to figure out if there is any significant differences to choose one over the other or to just go with cheaper price.

Also, heard repair costs for variable speed systems are expensive. Should I avoid or with these systems is it less of an issue?

Trane XL15i (model 4TTX5048A) 15 Seer 4 ton condenser including new line set & coil $7,795; with Trane furnace XV90 120 (model TUX2D120AFV5VA) $4,574. Install included.
Warranty: 5 Years Parts, 5 Years Labor, 20 Years Heat Exchange, 10 Years Compressor.

Carrier Performance (model 24APA548A003) 15 Seer 4 ton condenser including new line set & coil $5,650; with Carrier Infinity ICS Modulating Gas Furnace (model 58MVC-1-F-20) $3,990. Install included.
Warranty: 10 Years Parts, 10 Years Labor, 10 Years Compressor (not including labor), Coil 10 Years.

Do the costs look in line with what they're supposed to be?

    Thanks.

Buy this one. Cannot beat the price.

Carrier Performance (model 24APA548A003) 15 Seer 4 ton condenser including new line set & coil $5,650; with Carrier Infinity ICS Modulating Gas Furnace (model 58MVC-1-F-20) $3,990. Install included.

    .

The most important item is not the equipment but the install. You can take great equipment and turn it into junk if you do not know or car what you are doing.

Is the carrier similar to the trane system or is the Trane better? I'm trying to understand why there is such a price difference.

Also, would I need a new thermostat to handle a 2 stage system? I currently have a honeywell model 8000.

I'm getting the quotes from 2 different installers who came recommended.

    Thanks.

I feel they are about the same and will work the same so no real difference here but the name.

The Vision Pro 8000 series from Honeywell might be two stage compatible. You need the complete and EXACT model number to find out for sure.

Two is good three is better especially when you are spending the big $$$$.

    Thanks.

I had gotten 4 quotes, 2 carrier dealers and 2 trane. I am focusing on the 2 that had the better pricing of each.

I'm also thinking of getting a whole house air cleaner - either the trane clean effects or the honeywell f150 media. I was told the electronic cleaner i.e. the trane needs to be cleaned every 2 weeks vs. the honeywell media needs to be changed twice a year.

Can I use the trane clean effects if I go with the carrier?

You probably could but just get the Honeywell media unit. Works well and does not have electronic parts that are expensive to replace. PS the media unit can be sized to fit all HVAC systems.
