    230 volt Motor wiring
I have a 6 hp 230 volt air compressor motor that I have wired on a twin 20 amp breaker with a 10/2 wire. I cannot get the motor to start, I have took it off and had it checked and it works fine, just not when I wire it up in my garage. I do have power at my 10/2 wire, and cannot understand why it won't start. Any suggestions?

Is it really a "twin"/"tandem" breaker. i.e. Independent breakers or is it

A "ganged" breaker" where the actuator is connected by a bar?

    EDIT: Fixed per Washington's response

Twin and Tandem are the same. Most know it as Tandem.

It should have more than that. You listed 6HP in your first--you had to get this from some where. Please list everything from your name plate.

    Just curious!

    OK wrong words:

Tandem - two separate independently acuated breakers in one breaker spot.
    Ganged - 1 actuator, 2 breakers

Does your breaker look something like this: http://doitbest.com/Fuse+Boxes-Squar...sku-528227.dib

Or is it two different breakers in the panel?

Nonetheless, not having a bar between the poles makes it the wrong breaker.
You could have 0V between these and 120 between each pole and ground. That would make it not work.
