Where can I go to find out about how to start my own business in Alameda Count Ca. Are there seminars that will tell me how to go about this?

What type of business, if you are going to open a McDonalds, the chain will provide you complete traiing

If you are going to buy a bucket and a rag and wash cars, most likely not.

Are you going to have to write a business plan and borrow operating capitol?

There are all sorts of seminars ( you may have to travel to attend some)
But you have not provided enough information to provide any type of good answer.

Fr Chuck brings up some good points.

However, no matter what type of business you do, I would recommend you create a business plan.

80% of start-up business fail within the first 3 years. A business plan will significantly reduce your risk of failure.

Go to your public library. Usually useful books on this there. Ask a librarian to help with your search. They will likely be happy to help and knowlegable about what they have. This question is a common one they might hear.

Even your bookstore will have info on this in the business section. Also people who start crafts business go through the process so even books on crafts will often talk about this.

When we started a small candle business we got info from the local small business development center. Look for one in your area. I think we even got info from the local IRS office. We had to go there to register our business and I remember getting a packet and a cd and some other materials that were available in the office area.

You certainly can attend seminars. Adult ed programs often have this topic. Community colleges might. I'd hate to see you spend a ton of money when starting. Really between the library, bookstore, small business centers, and a few calls to government offices (ask for help they'll direct you to resources) you should begin to get a feeling for what you need to do.

As for the comment about small business failure... most fail because of money. Period. Lack of capital kills a business in its tracks. If you don't have a lot of money to spare you will need to either start small in an area with little overhead, or you'll need to get other people to fund you. That takes a solid business plan. Most people won't throw money at you until you've proven yourself some on your own or unless your business plan is just airtight and destined to be a success.

Be willing to hear no a hundred times to get to one yes. Educate yourself through reading and talking to others. Take some risks and see what sticks.

Hi, you can try to check on the net for new franchise trading events. Several companies usually join in looking for franchisers. When you've found the right business for you, make sure that you do a good planning and contingency plans. Remember that business is always a risk. Small and big businesses are now incorporating technology in their business so you may also want to use the latest business software to keep things organized and well-tracked.
