Taking patients assessments, charting, etc. to the patient area a hipps violation/
MY former employer insists that the nurses stay on the floor with the patients and take their charting with them. The nursing staff is very uncomfortable doing this as they feel it is a hippa violation to take the charting, assessments, etc. out on the floor with the patients all around. The company states it is not. Can anyone tell me if it is or isn't?

If I'm understanding your question correctly, I don't think it is a HIPAA violation. As long as you're not screaming vitals and diagnosis information out for other people to hear, there is not violation.

Though, I'm a bit unclear what you mean by taking them out on the floor. Is this a very crowded area, such as an ER?
