    Annul an Inmate Marriage
I married a man six years ago who is in prison. We have tried, but it hasn't worked out as husband and wife. He was in prison when we wed. He's in the Midwest (Mo) and I'm in England. Someone has said to me about the possibility of an annulment, as opposed to a divorce because of the fact that our marriage never got to be consummated. Can we do that?

Are you a resident of England? If so, you can file there, if it is legal. Possible reasons for annullment: "State law governs the grounds for annulling a voidable marriage. Couples should not be obligated by the serious duties incident to marriage if both parties did not genuinely intend to be married.

"Fraud is the most prevalent ground for annulment. The Misrepresentation, whether by lies or concealment of the truth, must encompass something directly pertinent to the marriage, such as religion, children, or sex, which society considers the foundation of a marital relationship.

"Physical or emotional conditions may also be grounds for annulment, particularly when they interfere with sexual relations or procreation."

Thanks George, your reply is appreciated. The only grounds are really the last paragraph, the marriage was entered into in good faith. I'm going to look into the information you've offered.
