    Being served a summons
I need to know how a person is served with a summons for child support. Would it be mailed to his home or would he have to be served in person? Does it have to state on the support summons how this was done?

There are many different ways actually.

One can be served personally, or one can be served via certified mail return receipt requested.

No, it does not have to state on the summons how it was done. As long as there is a signature that you received the summons in one way or another. That is considered proof of service.

Each state has its own methods, and no the summons itself will not say how it is to be done, the court orders how it is to be done.
If you got it, most likely it was served legally.

They will mostly likely try the home address first. If they can't get it delivered there, then they will look to serve it in person, like at a job.

My daughters father never updated the court when he moved place to place. So every time they were trying to take him to court for contempt, they never could because they didn't have a valid mailing address. When I happened to stumble across where he was working (since no one knew), I called child support and reported his new employment. They then served him while he was at work.
