My S&S dog book gives 9 pounds. You might find better info at American Kennel Club - akc.org. Of course dogs don't read breed standards and often violate them. Most dogs end up close to their parents in size with females often smaller than males.

They sometime ignore what the book says about temperament too.

I called two of my friends who have a mini dachsund a minute ago and one says her dog weights about 11 pounds, the other says hers weighs around 8 pounds but he is a little younger than the other.

So they're just little dogs. :P

Doxies are considered mini if they are under 12lb.
    12lb-15lbs they are called tweenies
Anything over 15lb's is considered standard.

I also have a mini - he is 10lbs. Be sure to be care of the amount of food and treats that you give your doxie. When they are overweight they are more prone to back problems. I am sure you will just love yours though, they are the sweeties things. Even when they look at you with the face that says "oops did I do that!?!?!?"

Good point on the weight. Best thing to do is evaluate the dog using LongLiveYourDog.com - Life Span Study - Rate Your Dog and adjust its food as needed.
