    Reboot PC
::) I just got Hp Brio ba PC. When I first pluged it in it booted up. When I shut down can't boot up. Twice I got it to boot up by unpluging it and pluging in again, pretty iffy. Any ideas for a fix? Thanks Jim. I didn't tell that I had pressed switch on front panel,
Also checked switch & wires to mother board, look fine. ::) I don't know age . I also added another fan, no heat problem, just will not start when you push front panel button.

    How old is this thing?

By "boot up" do you mean "power on" or "boot the os kernel." I am assuming you mean "power on" for now.

If you can always get it to power on by connecting the power cable, but never by the switch, it is possible the switch is just not connected properly. If you think this might be the problem, take a look inside and make sure the cables from the switch to the motherboard are connected properly. If the switch is just a cover over another switch, make sure the real switch is being pressed.

If it works "some of the time," maybe you have an overheating problem. Are all the fans working?

You have one of 2 problems. Either a bad power supply or a bad motherboard. My guess is a bad motherboard IF, when you replugged it, it actually booted up completely. If you examine the motherboard closely, look for any dried up fluid or leakage from somewhere on the board. This may or may not be present in a bad motherboard.

Old pc's have that kind of problem all the time anything and everything could be going wrong, bad cables, switches.
If you can still get to the mother board screen, it may be a hard drive problem, or a problem recoginizing the hard drive.
If this computer means something get some professional help at a local computer shop (not comercial). If not, it may be time to make a pet out of the cpu heat sink.
