What are you trying to do - draw a graph of each of these functions?

OK. I'll help you with the first problem, then maybe you can do the rest.

    The problem is: f(a) = 2a+3.

A function is sort of like a machine, where you stick a number in for the independent variable (in this case, for "a"), "turn the crank," and out comes a second number for f(a). In this case you stick in a value for "a" and see what comes out. So, when they ask for f(-5), what they want is for you to stick -5 in place of the "a" and see what you get. What you have here is f(-5) = 2 x -5 + 3 = -7. So, f(-5) = -7.

Now, can you do the rest?

Plug -5 into each variable and do the arithmetic.
