    Re-painting a shelf
I have a wood shelf that I would like to re-paint, but I am not sure exactly how to go about it. I was planning to sand it first (there are several layers of paint on it right now)- is there a certain grade of sand paper I should be using (I think the shelf is pine- if that makes a difference)? Also, if I sand it, do I still need to prime it, or can I just put on a couple of coats of the paint color (right now it is white, and I would like to paint it brown)?

I don't have a good outdoor space to do this, and my basement isn't that well ventilated- would it be safe to paint this indoors if I used a latex paint?

I would just not sand It and just paint it. It saves a lot of time.[/B]

Will the paint stick properly if I don't sand or prime it first?
