    I finally fixed my problem
    In case anyone else ever has the same issue this is what I did to fix mine,

    1. Click on Start | Run

    2. Type in "dxdiag"

    3. In the Sound window (the 4th tab over for me), change the slider for Hardware Sound Acceleration Level from "Full acceleration" to "Basic acceleration".
