How dangerous is a loose live wire coming out of the ground?
There is a loose live wire coming up out of the ground at my church. They recently built a new building. But this wire is just laying on top of the ground exposed. I thought it was trash so I picked it up to throw it away. There was a small boom sound, sparks flew out and when I threw it down on the ground the sparks burned the grass.

I would like to know how dangerous this is, especially for children. I called attention to it immediately and was informed that it would not hurt me!

I would like to take some sound advise back to the appropriate person in charge as I am very concerned about children playing around this live wire.

Please, can anyone please help me?

    Thank you, Ozzy

It is most definitely DANGEROUS and someone can be KILLED, Especially kids, because they can't see the danger. Sorry,I didn't mean yell. I would ask Church, or Men or Women
Who know something of Electric. Maybe call local Fire Dept, Don't know resources or lack of. If you have to, all police. Call 911 if you have to. Source of the wires should be disconnected permenatly, or terminated in a box, by Qualified person. Don't know if money is a problem, ignorance or stupidity. Needs to be taken care of ASAP, Now would not be too soon. Good Luck
