    Bad bad dogg
OK,. I don't know what I did.My dog use to be nice, kind and always wanting to be next to me. But know these couple of days he has tried to bite me, and he growls at me when I enter to each room. He also doesn't even want me to carry him. If I do try to carry him he asks like he is going to bite me. Im really intimidated by this because I had a dog that attacked me. So it scars me when he does this. So please can somebody help me... :(

Something has happened. Perhaps more so than than in other cases, the first step is a good vet exam carefully explaining the problem to the vet. If the vet doesn't find anything, post back with more details. Try to think of any changes that may have happened recently.

Drz, if there isn't anything you can think of that might have caused this sudden dramatic change in your dog's personality it would be wise to have him examined by your vet to make sure he is physically okay, as labman suggests above.

But, before you run to the vet some questions come to mind. How old is your dog and what breed is it? I am wondering if before, when your dog wanted to be by your side he was a puppy and has now matured into an adult dog. If that is the case, your fear of him will help heighten and continue to feed his dominant behavior toward you. It will only get worse if you don't correct it now and assert your role as the "pack leader". labman has some information regarding maintaining alpha position with your dog that I am sure he will share with you when he sees my post. Please read it and see if it applies to your situation. If it doesn't apply, then it would be wise to seek out the vet because it might be a result of a medical problem. If he is old, any number of things might be bothering him, such as pain from arthritis. When you pick him up, you might be hurting him without realizing it. Medication will help him with that pain.

Ruby is right. I was going to wait for more information before discussing training. The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts. Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog. Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones. You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat. Start at Raising Your Dog with the Monks of New Skete For more on being top dog, see Establishing and Keeping Alpha Position, Letting your dog know you are the boss

No amount of training will relieve pain. Please see the vet soon.
