Draw a picture.
/ = customers
circle / to show cookie.
Put a square around / to show muffin.
/ / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / etc. Circle every 4th one until you have made 29 circles. Then do the square around the muffin customers.

You said every 4th customer received a cookie. You also said every 6th customer received a muffin. For instance, if there were 12 customers, 2 muffins were given out and 3 cookies were given out, right?

I apologize. I just figured you were the typical kid that posts their homework and waits for one of us to answer... which is against the rules anyway.
To be honest, I don't know the correct way that this is done. I can come up with an answer but probably not the way the school wants to see it. This is the problem with my daughter and her homework. I can get the answer but with the "new" math, my methods are wrong.
You need to do multiples of 4 and 6... Of course the question doesn't make it clear whether the 12 customer would get a cookie, a muffin, or both... and so on for every number that both 4 and 6 go into.

6 goes into 29. 4x. But you have a remainder.

It's not 29 customers. It is 29 cookies given away to every 4th customer. That's a lot of customers.

so its 4th customer multiple by 29cookies = 116
116 divide 6 = 19.3
is it 19?

But that doesn't mean116 was the total number of customers.
Why can't the total be 120?
