My 4yr has been sick since early December, Sinus infection?
Hello, everyone I need some help. My 4yr old daughter has been sick since early December, called the Dr. with questions, as well as taking her in to see him. He gave her a decongestant with a cough medicine but I am concerned she has a sinus infection. He said no, this child has been coughing/gagging from post nasal drip as well as lots of junk out of her nose. I had one in December and just got on an antibiotic on Wednesday for another one which I feel so much better today. I am not one to always run to antibiotics but I feel she needs one. Right now considering I am up once again at night with my sick child, I am upset and feel I have the right to demand the Dr. put her on one. Any suggestions would be helpful since I am so ready to look for another Dr.!

I suggest getting a second opinion from another doctor. And how ever many doctor's it takes before someone finally figures out how to help her.
Pretty much my whole life, I've gotten this cough every single winter and it lasts all the way into spring. The sort of cough that keeps you up all night and basically just ruins everything because it is so miserable. My mom used to only take me to see our regular family doctor and he would just blow it off and give me a whole bunch of codeine cough syrup (can you say 'ew!'?) or try an inhaler (none of them ever worked... ). I finally saw both an ENT specialist, and an allergist. The ENT dr told me that I had post nasal drip and gave me a nasal spray that almost completely took away the cough. And the allergist did some tests and we figured out I'm mildly allergic to dust and dogs. So basically I suffered for 18 years because of one doctor that didn't want to take the time to find out what was really wrong with me.

There is an upper respiratory virus going around right now that can last as long as 6 - 8 weeks.

Now, I do think it is a good idea for a second opinion. But to demand an antibiotic can actually be hazardous to her health should it be noting more than a virus. Antibiotics do nothing to viruses and, if taken unnecessarily, can cause her body to be resistant to that antibiotic in the future with future bacterial infections.

In the end, I agree you need a second opinion.

Maxumy2k - I do believe you need to take her to a (ALLERGIST DOCTOR ) Our youngest son was 5 years old before we took him to doctor grogan,at a allergery clinic to be tested, we found through testing that he was allergic to selveral things plus complacated by assama, he went on shots tell his body got built up to where he didn't need them as often, he is now 37 years old and in very good health, he has outgrown most of his allergeys, but still has the assmath. dr. grogan told us a long time ago that we could have lost him if we hadn't got the right care for him . ( I STRONGLY WANT YOU TO TAKE HER TO THE ALLERGY DOCTOR> I HAVE STRONG FEELINGS THAT YOU WILL FIND OUT HER TRUE PROBLEMS ) Good luck & GOD BLESS. DO IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!! ::: F.B.E.
