    Images Not Showing
I'm frequently unable to see images such as the one that should be at this link:

Filoli Center ::: Visitor Information | Virtual Tour

Instead I get a little square icon with a blue triangle, green circle and red square inside.

It happens often enough that I doubt it's the sites, but if others have the same problem please let me know.

I don't know exactly what this all involves, but I'm running Vista HP on an AMD Athlon X2 3600+ PC and have a NVIDIA GeoForce 7300LE video card. Java is up to date and it and the vid card (and Vista itself) download updates automatically.

    Any suggestions? Thanks.

For that particular page you are missing the Ipix plug-in.
    IPIX to install it.

I installed it but it causes IE to restart every time. I'm not sure it's compatible with Vista. What do you suggest? Thanks again.

If it's not compatible with Vista you might want to email IPix and ask them about it... I've not used that plug-in for a long time.

I can't see this Java image either:

    https://pastel.diplomatie.gouv.fr/ed..._orsay.gb.html

I get a box with a red X in it. My Java is up to date. Also on many forums (not this one) this happens with some of the avatars. Is this all Ipix-rleated or do I have a more general problem?

Check the Internet Explorer security settings, to make sure you can use extensions like java.

It's under Tools, Internet Options, and the Security tab

It could be a security issue as retsoksirhc pointed out, also check to see which VM you're using in IE, Microsoft's or Sun's. The default is to use Microsoft's so even if you're up to date it may be using the wrong one.
    Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Java (Sun).
If the box is not checked then check it, close all instances of IE and try again.
If it is checked (Sun's VM is better than MS's) try un-checking it, shut down all IE browsers and try again.
If it still doesn't work you should check what version of Java you're using. Open a DOS window and type java -version, tell us what it says.

    HTH.

Sorry, the Vista or IE layout is a bit different as far as I can tell.

The use JRE for <applet> is checked as a default. Same problem unchecked.

Under Security Settings (which I would imagine are only the defaults), scripting of Java applets is enabled. However, many other items are disabled such as: Allow Previously Unused ActiveX, Allow Scriptlets, Automatic Prompting for ActiveX, Display Video... on Webpage.. Download Unsigned ActiveX.. Initialize and Script... Not Marked as Safe.. Allow Websites to Open Windows Without Address or Status Bars, and some others. Security is set to medium-high.

Here are the contents of Sun Java Console in IE:

    Java Plug-in 1.6.0_02
Using JRE version 1.6.0_02 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM
    User home directory = C:\Users\Customer
    ----------------------------------------------------
    c: clear console window
f: finalize objects on finalization queue
    g: garbage collect
    h: display this help message
    l: dump classloader list
    m: print memory usage
    o: trigger logging
    p: reload proxy configuration
    q: hide console
    r: reload policy configuration
s: dump system and deployment properties
    t: dump thread list
    v: dump thread stack
    x: clear classloader cache
0-5: set trace level to <n>

Is this what you were looking for in DOS?

There is no Java on that page, it contains a frameset but both frames are 100% HTML.
Right click on the red x box and select properties. What does it tell you.

Clicking on the 360 degree icons for the tour images, such as here:

    https://pastel.diplomatie.gouv.fr/ed..._orsay.gb.html

seems to bring up a Java logo, which has the box with the red X and the cursor over it says to click to activate and use the control, but that doesn't change anything.

Right clicking on that X and choosing the open Java console gives this (my emphasis):

    Java Plug-in 1.6.0_02
Using JRE version 1.6.0_02 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM
    User home directory = C:\Users\Customer

I have the same issue on my XP Pro machine... perhaps the problem is not yours.
