    Csrcs.exe missing error at startup
    Hello

When I was checked the windows xp operating system for viruses through avg free edition it says the c:\windows\system32\csrcs.exe file is infected with worm/autoit.dja and the same have been removed from system. After rebooting the system csrcs.exe file missing error is coming in the statrup.

How to remove this error from startup?

    Thank you

If you don't have it already, download and install CCleaner:

    CCleaner - Download

Making a donation before downloading is optional, it is technically free.

    Once installed, run the program.

    Click on TOOLS > Startup

Now go through the list shown in the middle of the screen and spot the entry that is causing the problem. Select it, then click Disable.

While you're in there, disable anything else you don't need running ALL the time, like RealPlayer updater, Quicktime, Adobe Reader updater... there will probably be a lot of programs you use occasionally you didn't know loaded part of themselves when you startup. Disable them.

Here`s a helpful tip on the csrcs.exe Virus. After your antivirus has detected this virus and eliminated it you are left with an error every time you start your computer. I tried many way too fix this repairing the registry whit different kinds of registry cleaners and even that didn’t work so I got this idea the computer is looking for this “csrcs.exe” every time it starts up so I’m going to give it a blank program it would think that the nasty virus is there but is isn’t there at all and so starting up without that error.
    Instructions:
    1. Download this program from Dud
    2. Extract it like to the desktop
    3. Rename it to csrcs.exe
    4. Then copy it to C:\WINDOWS\System32
    :D:D
    Good Luck

The error seems to be because some Antivirus has cleared your Virus program but did not remove the entries from the registries.

    Follow these steps:
    1) Backup the registry (Take care on editing registry because you are solely responsible for any disasters)
    2) Check out the following path for the entries of csrcs.exe and delete the entries containing csrcs.exe

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\RunOnce
    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersion\Runonce

    3) Check out this entry
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\

Here you will find a Key with the name "Shell" Check whether the value of this key is something like "explorer.exe csrcs.exe" If it is so then u need to modify the value by removing "csrcs.exe" alone. Note donot delete the "explorer.exe" or delete the entire key

    4) Restart your system
Hope this will solve your issue.

In your reg: go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon and look for 'Shell". In this entry you will see Explorer.exe; csrcs.exe. Right click on 'Shell' and delete ; csrcs.exe.

Also search your reg for csrcs.exe and remove all other entries. There should only be 2 total.

Run a complete Antivirus/spyware etc on the system, back the files up, reinstall Windows, bring the files back in.

    1. Next time please create your own thread instead of piggybacking on a 3 year old thread.

    2. csrcs.exe is a Windows file but is most commonly known as a virus with the same name. The following steps can be used to remove it.

    A) Scan PC with updated Anti-Virus (remove results)

    B) Open Task Manager, locate this exe (csrcs.exe or csrsc.exe but not csrss.exe), and kill the process.

C)Now type msconfig in the Run box, and then go to startup tab.

D)Locate this exe file, if any, and then remove it from there as well

E)Now search the file in the C: drive.

F)Permanently delete the file (csrcs.exe or csrsc.exe only) from
    the computer.

G)Permanently delete the file (csrcs.exe or csrsc.exe only) from the computer.

    H) START > RUN > regedit (if applicable)

    I) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Cu rrentVersion\Winlogon\

    J) On the right side, there should be a key named “Shell”, it may be having a value “explorer.exe csrcs.exe”. Just modify it to delete the csrcs.exe from it (not explorer.exe) I repeat NOT explorer.exe.

    K)Restart the computer

    L) Scan with updated Anti-Virus (remove results)

M )Restart and see if it's resolved.
