I have some type of birch tree in the front of my house. The roots have grown up on the lawn and crakes my walk way. The tree is beautiful but is destroying my walkway and the lawn. Can I save it or should I just cut it down. If I replant a tree, what tree can I plant that will avoid damaging my lawn and sidewalk like this one did? It looks like they planted the tree not deep enough or they had to as the house apparently was built on an old mountain of rocks.. Do I need to hire a tree expert or something? OR just take it down.. I would love to keep it and cut all the roots that are talking up my walkway but not sure if that would eventually kill the tree anyway.. Any suggestions?

I'm from a city of trees and when we re do the concrete walks we cut the roots out to make room for the walks. Any tree of size will eventuality lift a walk and crack it.

I would trim root system. You can get an arborists to help guide you on the amount of root to cut and how to cut it.

. A brich tree is a very expensive and nice tree.

I cut down the River Birch tree in my front yard. I personally love the white birch trees but this birch we had was over 40 feet already and it was still a young tree. The roots were everywhere. We had to have someone come in and take it down then cut up the stump and cut up most of the roots but since they spread across the lawn we only cut up what we needed to get the area ready or our new tree. We are thinking about a Magnolia, Dogwood, Jap. Red Maple or Eastern Redbud. Hoping none of these trees have big surface roots and destry out lawn again and most importantly, the tree lives!

Wow. 300 of them. You must really like them. Do they have a problem with surface roots on the lawns? Do they grow more tan 25 feet tall?

Believe it or not only have on jap in my yard. Its my mom tree for seeds to grow more.

I sell them and other shrubs and plants. I'm a part time grower. I'm a G.C. and also sell to the customer plants shrubs after we dig up there yard for an addition on a home or a new home commercial etc.

I also go to growers auctions to buy what I don't grow. Some I keep and the rest I sell.

I sell on a couple weekends out of a year. Set up 6 plywood tables and blue tarp over head on a corner street parking lot by a convince store.

Sold 5 dump truck loads in a 2 day period. Its fun. Got so busy for 3 solid hours have my gal loading and unloading. 4 people at the stand working flat out.

Don't know if you are into junipers but here is an overlooked shrub. It can take serious pruning and even be made into a trophy tree. You can also easily train it. Sell quite a few and have many.

Pine trees don't have a big root prob;em. If u cut the tree down, try pine. They are always nice... my opinion.

I have a Maple Tree that was planted to close to the house and the roots are now touching the front poarch. What should be done?
