Two days ago, both of the showers in my home stop having hot water. I have very hot water in the sinks in the bathrooms. The shower doesn't get but lukewarm. One showe in the spin dial to adjust the temp and turn on the shower. The other is a spin dial for temp and has a facet the you pull the thing to engage the shower. Any help would be great. Most problems like that are caused by some crud in the line. Seems a coincidence both showers at once, and neither sink. Do you have shutoff valves before the showers, perhaps behind a panel in the wall? If so, shut the hot water off and loosen the pipe to the shower valve. See if any crud comes out. Maybe even turn the shower on allowing the cold water to back flush the crud out of the hot. If that doesn't work, try turning the valve on with the pipe loose and see if you get much water water out. If not, the clog is before the valve, maybe right at it. Shut the main hot water off if you can, or all the water. Unscrew the top of the valve if you can and see if there is crud. If that doesn't work, maybe Tom will have posted some better ideas by then. Give him the brand of the shower control.

It is a Delta control it is about 5 years old. Thanks for your help. I will try to do that today.

Your Delta valve has seats and springs instead of a cartridge. Perhaps the hot water pipes were disturbed or you have mineral build up in the heater but the hot water seat is blocked in both valves.
To access the valve, remove the handle and the face plate. You should see screwdriver stops where the water enters the valve. If not turn off the water. Now unscrew the bonnet nut and pull out the stem unit assembly. This will expose the seats and springs. Remove them and check the opening for crud or blockage. Now, while the valve is open) turn on the hot water and flush out the supply line. You should have a full stream. If so, reassemble. If not then the blockage is further downstream and you may have to call in outside help. Good luck, Tom

I had the same problem, both showers. Delta faucets. Got one going by removing a pea gravel sized chunk of rust stuck in the valve. The other I got flowing by jiggling a wire up the hw side of the valve, but then it replugged later. Old house, bad water, in need of repiping.

I have the opposite problem. Both my kitchen sink and by bathroom sink won't get hot, but the shower gets good and hot. What do I do about that?

Hello Redtressd,

Yes it sounds like you have debris inside the valve, what you need to do is to shut off the water to the shower by the main valve, remove the cartidge and turn on the water for a few seconds and shut it down, install the cartridge and check it now it should be OK, Good luck.

Well, now I'ts only a 5 month old post! :] I have a similar problem in that the water pressure in my shower is very low when on the full-hot position, the pipes make a steady knock-knock sound (about 3 knocks per second) when the hot water is running, and during the knocks, the hot water pressure decreases. Any advice for me gurus of the waterworld? Thx,

I have a shower which is run off a hot water tank, there is a pump in the loft to support the shower.
The shower is above a bath which as a bath filler and no taps, I have a plate on the wall with three knobs which control the temperature bath flow and shower flow.
Although hot water runs out of the basin tap in the bathroom the shower flow is almost cold and the temperature control doesn't now work.
Does anyone have any ideas.

Im having the same proble, hot water all over the house and the sink in the master bedroom, but the tub no pressure at all, I replaced to valve cartridge but still have the same issue. It's a American Standard

When you changed the cartridge did you flush any t5rash left in the supplies? Shut the water off and open up the valve again. Check and clean the inlet ports, Now turn the water back on for a minute to flush out the supplies. Reassemble and test. Good luck, Tom
