    This cheats: february 29 1916 - Wolfram|Alpha

    You have to check evenly divisible by 4, 400, and 100 if I remember right, but I forget the 400 and 100 tests, but they don't apply here.

    If the number is evenly divisible by 4, then it was a leap year
    1916 divided by 4 equals?
    If there is no remainder than it was a leap year.
    In other words, if 1916 is a multiple of 4 than it is a leap year.

    Greta:

    Evenly divisible by 4 works in this case, but doesn't work for some years. February 29, 1900 was NOT a leap year, yet it's evenly divisible by 4. february 29 1900 - Wolfram|Alpha

    Divisible by 4, 400 and 100 pay a part like I said in post #2.

    February 29, 2000 WAS a leap year.

    It is divisible by 4 (Makes it a possible leap year)
    And 100 (makes it a possible non-leap year) evenly.

    Since it's evenly divisible by 400 it IS a leap year.
    Leap year;

    And to make the discussion complete, there is the "leap-second". See Leap second - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
