    Word, "requesting virus scan"
    Hi,
Running Word, Office 2000, on Win XP, when we attempt to load a file from any disk, we get the hourglass icon, the Word message "Requesting Virus scan", and no progress from there. Our Virus scanner is ESET/Nod32.
This is a new installation, with SP2 updates, the previous installation of the same configuration but SP1, did not have this problem. I have searched Word 'HELP' every which way, and it appears Word wants to scan for macro viruses. Adjusting security level to low did not help, I think I need to turn the scan request OFF in Word, but can not find a way to do that. Anyone have an answer to my problem?

    Hi,
If this program is on an Install CD, have you considered "disabling" or turning off your Anti-Virus program while doing the install?
Just right click on the icon down by the clock on the system tray, then Left click on "Disable", "Close", or whatever.
    It might work.

    To Fredg and StuMagu:
Nah, guys, that did not fix it. But I did notice, yesterday, that the user, my wife, has somehow managed to have a "My Documents" folder in her "My Documents" folder. I was suspicious that that would cause confusion to the system, but I was/am equally worried that changing the name of the daughter file would cause problems with any "registered" files, and naturally shortcuts, which seem to be the most numerous files on the machine.
When re-installation failed to fix the problem, I renamed the daughter folder "More Documents", which initially seemed to be able to open and close a couple of files before Word "is not responding". After a re-boot, it appears to be working OK. The next step is to let my wife back at it, and see how long it lasts!
Many thanks to both of you for your fast response. I should have tried the folder re-name before I called for help!
    Cheers, KENG
