    Apparently, it's Igbo, not Ibo. I Googled your question with the book title and found several good sites that explain their traditional roles. Please do that and you will find some answers on shmoop.com and studymode.com.

    The author spelled it one way (Igbo). Culturally, we know that tribe as Ibo. They are the same people.
