What kind of pain is it? And why does your doctor say nothing can be done? Have you gotten a second opinion?

Have you tried acupuncture? I hear it sometimes works for people with chronic pain.

    Shoulder
    Hi,
I am 63 yrs old, and about 5 years ago, hurt my rotator cup in my shoulder. A specialist gave me a "shot", which helped for about 6 months, saying I would have to eventually have surgery. I never had it.
I had been taking Glucosamine-Chondrointin capsuls for arthritis, 750 Mg daily. My wife also takes them for her neck arthritis, and doesn't need prescription medications any longer! They help her more than the prescriptions.
I highly recommend trying the capsuls, taking about 1500 Mg a day, until you begin to feel relief. Then, you can cut back to about half that, but must continue taking them.
They "lubricate" the affected areas, relieving pain.
If you would like a site to get more information, and to order, (I use this site for orders, cheaper than most others):
    http://www.americannutrition.com
Best of luck, and please try the capsuls if you haven't already. They do work for most people. But, the specialists I saw, only laughed. The Gastroenteroligist didn't laugh, and recommended doubling my dosage of it.

I also have pain in my shoulders. I also have been to doctors that haven't been especially helpful. We may differ in the cause of the pain. You seem to feel it was caused by trauma, maybe by misaligning the bones. If that's the case you may very well be forced to find a way to control the pain as opposed to having a surgical procedure.
I think that you have to idendify the cause of the problem before you take steps to remedy it. Was it xrayed? This will determine if you have any bone damage (I was a medical x-ray tech until I switched to industry).
If there is no bone damage than the two most likely causes are bursitis or arthritis. I know that this gets confusing and many times one problem can imitate another. I will break it down as best I can so you can try to pinpoint the cause.

Bone damage- Intense pain even with minor use.
Bursitis- Pain is moderate, worse when arms are lifted to or above shoulder level. Burning sensation often is common with bursitis.
Arthritis-Moderate pain. Comes and goes. Often affects both shoulders equally.

Now the hard part. How to treat it. I use a prescription anti-inflammatory and a topical crème (capsicin). Or for quick relief ice is great, since this works directly on the inflammation, however the effects are short lived. The sad fact is that the pain may be managed but never truly eliminated. By the way, weight training may not be the best thing especially with bursitis which needs to be rested. Good luck and try to get someone else to do the heavy lifting.

Yes I agree totally with you its how to manage the pain,, and as you say it is so difficult to know if weights are doing more damage than repair, also I try swimming and forcing myself through the water with out using my legs and still I am getting no great relief,, I am just going to stick with jogging and little gym excercises,, its just it worries me if I can continue working longterm,. willtry the ciamicen,, ok regds thanks so much mike

I too am experiencing a lot of rotator cuff pain. Unable to work out any more can't even pick up a stapler from my desk with my left arm if I stretch it out to the left. Ive contacted an attorney and he has led me to believe that two of the doctors have less than good records for diagnosing these even with an MRI Ive have rotator cuff surgury on my other shoulder twice and I know the pain and this is what I have. Be it tear, spurs, or what ever it's there... danboyd
