    A/C failed to come
    Just installed a honeywell thermostat model RTH230B. Connected as follows
    Rh to Red
    Rc to Blue
    W to White
    Y to Yellow
    G to Green
    Set J2 Jumper to HE
    A/C failed to come ON. Checked Panel light showing Rapid flashing indicating Short circuit to 24 v/vac Reverse polarity. How can I reset it.
    HVAC Carrier Central Air Condition model 388R304
    Thanks

    I cannot find the model number for your unit you listed. Look again. I also need to know what the brand and model number was for your old thermostat.

    Did you mark(identify) the wires before removal from the old thermostat like the instructions said to do?

    The jumper you set was for electric heat HE. Do you have a electric furnace?

    Way did you connect RC to blue?

    If you have a heat pump this thermostst will not work.

    READ your instructions of look at this copy.

    Yes labeled the wires prior to removal
    Green = G
    Yellow = Y
    Red = R
    Blue = C
    White = W
    Wasn't sure about the RH and RC so I connected as to H = Red and C = Blue.
    The jumper is set to HG for gas heater.
    The Carrier model number maybe 388 or 38BR304 not sure of the box.

    Second request for old thermostat manufacturer and model number.

    I cannot help you if you do not provide the minimal information.

    I am almost sure you have the wrong kind of thermostat but I would like to confirm.I ned the info requested. If you do not have the info I cannot be of help to you.

    First you said the jumper was on HE

    Now you say it is on HG

    What gives with this.

    Right; the model number is 38br3048550. This is off the compreser and fan housing unit outside the house.
    The old thermostate is made by ChaseRoberts no model or manufacture is shown.
    I have reinstalled the Old Thermostat and still not working.

    You might have blown a small fuse located on the circuit board if this unit has one.

    I still cannot locate your exact model number.

    Do you know if this is a heat pump?
    Does the outside unit run in the winter like a heat pump does?

    Look at the inside unit and get that model number also.

    I think your problem is the blue wire should not be on the RC terminal, you need to put a jumper across the RH to RC and if your t-stat does not have a C terminal then isolate the blue wire. You are shorting your transformer by having that blue wire on RC terminal:eek:

    Right; I have found the 3A fuse on the circuit board and have replaced it. With the old thermostat installed, the system came back on. Thanks to all. Now I have a 5 wire system, to correctly wire the RTH230B, where does the RH and RC terminal connect to. I have a gas heater (not sure if this indicates a heat pump). The current wires are
    White = W
    Yellow = Y
    Blue = C
    Green = G
    Red = R
    on the old t. The RTH230B has W,Y,G,RH, RC WITH A J2 for the HE and HE.
    Thanks

    White -W
    Yellow-Y
    Green-G
    Red- R/C & R/H ( need to install jumper)
    Blue- Isolate
    J2-HG

    It does not appear that you have a heat pump but a gas heater and no electric heat
