    Renal kidney failure
John is a recovering alcoholic and is currently in Stage V Renal Failure. The Nephrologist office that you work for received a call stating a donor kidney has been located for the patient.

    • At what stage of renal failure should a patient be given a kidney transplant?
    • What happens to the kidneys during Stage I through Stage V Renal Failure?

Please provide a detailed answer. Im having trouble answering this for my class in medical billing and coding. Im hoping that some answers might give me a little help and then I can put it into my own words so that I then will understand.

    Hi,

At this point Google is your friend. There is a lot of online resources for renal failure. There is a lot that is known and a lot of foundations and websites that have the information that you're looking for. I would just be parroting what I found online, which would be a lot of work for me, and not a lot for you.

I have been through post secondary school and one of the things that I learned was how to learn. One of the primary things in learning how to learn is known that you don't need to know everything but you need to know how to access that knowledge quickly. Before the internet, computers, and electronic means, this was done either from memory in most cases or from books. The way knowledge is gained and accessed has changed completely in the last couple decades. The amount of knowledge that is required to know has dropped, and the ability to quickly access, understand, and apply what you can find is a more important skill.

To put it short, you're learning two things here:
1). The wonderful world of kidney disease, failure, and transplants.
2). How to find information needed, and what resources you can use.

    Good luck.

I'm not sure what you mean? And that's fine but if someone can help me to undertsand how to find the answer that would be great. I'm in a time crunch. =] thank you for responding... but the only answer I might have so far, and please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong or way off subject here, but he wouldn't be eligible to be put on the list until he was sober for at least 6-18 months. Correct? But if I am correct, then what stage of renal kidney failure would that be or how do I find out?

I'm in medical billing and coding classes and this is one of my questions. They ask this because they want to make sure we understand the process of how each situation can work out so we make sure to code them correctly due to the fact a lot of root words as well as suffixes and preffixes have the same meanings but different spellings

    Wait..
Renal failure is the same thing as kidney failure.. renal just means the end stage, so my answer would then be, (to part of the question anyways)

The patient should be given a kidney transplant in stage V of renal failure. Correct? Or am I just lost. Lol

And the reason for that being because in stage v or the "end stage" in renal failure they kidney function so poorly that they cannot work to keep one another alive. There is no reversing this and drugs or prescribed medication won't help at this point.

Renal doesn't mean end stage. Renal and kidney are interchangeable.

Your key is the stage V designation for this disease, not the terms that mean the same. You had it right I think,

And the reason for that being because in stage v or the "end stage" in renal failure they kidney function so poorly that they cannot work to keep one another alive. There is no reversing this and drugs or prescribed medication won't help at this point.
Dig deeper though, as transplants are not the ONLY or automatic course of treatment. It does trigger further diagnosis by a specialist.

Maybe that is my problem, I'm not googling things right... can you tell me exactly what you would type into the Google search bar for either this question or any of my others to help me get a little better idea?

I would not be googling anything except for background as most course work is set up to take the best answers from a provided text. The book is essential for finding specific answers they want so don't leave home without it and you change the whole dynamic of the way you approach your extension work.

The whole secret to a successful completion of college is working with what they provide you, and using it effectively. The computer is the means to publish the answers you find in the course text, not what's on the net. Now get your book and do this correctly, and save time, and aggravation.

The textbook gives you ALL the needed data, you just plug it into the correct question. Ask your instructor if you don't believe me.

Gosh, I know that but it 'appears' to be nursing school.
