Well water with really foul smell
I have a well with a Fleck 5600 water softener and Fleck 5600 carbon filter. The carbon filter has a chlorine tank for cleaning. Recently the carbon tank timer "had its issues" and was out of business for a week or two and not able to clean the carbon. I replaced the brine valve piston and refilled the chlorine tank.

Just before making the repairs, the most foul smell began coming from my water, like something crawled in there and died, not sulphur or iron. Isolating by bypassing the water softener and then the carbon filter, I determined it is the carbon tank that is the source. The system has been cycled a couple of times and I have flushed the water lines but I still have this lingering awful smell.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!
